BLACK DECKER Big Finish Progress
BLACK DECKER Big Finish Progress
Since I was a whirlwind of paint for the first ten days of this BLACK + DECKER Big Finish challenge (bad blogger), I am scrambling to get things finished by December 10th. This is actually proving to be a nice kick in the pants.
I know I posted about three rug options on Monday. Howeeeever, after I was perusing Etsy for way too long, trying to find a small, colorful kilim, I decided to check out what Urban Outfitters had. My thought is always that surely if a trend has been on the market for 6-12 months, UO should have some kind of knock off ready. I have actually checked there in the past, several times, waiting for them to have one, because I knew eventually they would. And Monday was my lucky day, because they did. Most of the ones that I had found on Etsy were at least $150, and I was happy to find this one for something like $40:

Yes!!! I am glad that it is actually woven, and not printed. And, it was pretty great that it just happened to be Cyber Monday, because shipping was free, and I got $15 off my "$75 or more" order.
Yep, while I was there, I looked at shower curtains for fun. And found one!

Yessssss. Finally a rug and shower curtain that I really love. I shouldnt have even bought the other ones. Dangit. Oh well. I moved the red rug downstairs, and it looks good by the front door.
AND! In other exciting news, I picked out some cararra marble for the bathroom countertop. Woo! This is very, very, very exciting to me. I am using Christmas money to buy a new countertop for my guest bathroom. Weird? Kind of. I know that I will just go in there and stare at it. Weirdo.
Heres what it looks like now:
and what I found:
I like that its a bit whiter, with less large gray veining. I wanted a more white slab, since the tile in the shower is also cararra, with LOTS of gray. I thought the contrast would be good. And its honed marble, so its not shiny. I think itll be a nice change from that shower tile. And the honed marble will be softer. I was lucky to find a remnant slab. Wish me luck that I can get it in in 7 days?!? Ahhhh.
If you havent (or want to again :) ) checked out the BLACK + DECKER Big Finish initiative, please go here and see what everyone is up to! There are lots of cool projects to check out. And, like I said, you can enter to win their contest for $10,000 cash or some nice prizes.
Thank you to BLACK+DECKER for sponsoring this post and inspiring me to FINALLY finish this room!

BLACK DECKER Big Finish Update
BLACK DECKER Big Finish Update
Im just popping in for a quick update... I slept in a little because I have been sick, and am headed out the door to go to work! As you know by now, I am in the BLACK + DECKER Big Finish initiative to finally finish one room that Ive been wanting to attack.
The shower curtain and the rug from Urban Outfitters came in this weekend... I love them!
so cute. Its dyed cotton. Probably wont last a lifetime, but since cost is an issue, I am happy with only spending $38 (from the Cyber Monday sales) versus $100+.
(do you like my socks and slippers? ha)
I will most likely change out the art, too. Just for something different.
Overall, I like the new changes a lot. So much happier and more "me"
and remember where we started?
the new countertop is going to be awesome, too. Unfortunately, unless something super crazy awesome happens, it wont be in by the 10th. But, the cararra marble slab has been selected, the contracts have been signed, and they are coming out to measure for it tomorrow morning. Cross your fingers that it happens REALLY SOON. Of course I am being very impatient. :)
And please, dont forget to CLICK HERE for the all the BLACK + DECKER Big Finish info. Some people have said its confusing... I think if its confusing, its only because its really easy... all you do is have to click on that link, and it will take you to the website where you can enter their contest to win $10,000 cash, and one of several nice prizes from BLACK + DECKER. You can enter through December 10th.

BLACK DECKER Big Finish
BLACK DECKER Big Finish
Ahhh, Friday. Glad its here! Im actually headed to Nashville this weekend with a friend -- excited to explore a new town. Ive been a couple of times, but its been ten years since Ive visited, and a lot has changed. Any recommendations for places to visit? Cool restaurants, shops, etc.?
Anyway, moving on. Im also excited to announce a little "challenge" that I am going to take on, which is in partnership with the BLACK + DECKER Big Finish. BLACK + DECKER is challenging all the participants to take on a project around their house that they have been putting off, and FINISHING it. I was actually supposed to start this project on the tenth of November, so I am 11 days behind - bad blogger! So, I only have 19 days to complete it. Yikes!
What project am I going to finish? Our guest bathroom. I spruced it up a while back, but there are a few things that I just still dont like about it. It has never felt finished to me, and it wont take a whole lot to get it there. Heres what it looks like now:

Like I said, its done-ish. It started out looking like this:

I didnt love the cabinet from the beginning. Its a little too modern for me, and the counter bugs me because water spots stay on it. When it gets wet, a little dark shadow appears in the spots where the water has been, from absorbing it. Its one of those little things thats not a huge deal, but just bugs me, you know?! Anyway, I eventually painted the cabinet, and changed out the hardware.
I also switched out the light fixture which used to look like this:

and bought a farmhouse light from Amazon, spray painted the outside black, and hung it...

and it looks like this:

Its cute, even though it was a nightmare to hang! I had a hard time. At least I improved my electrical work skills ;)
I also switched out the faucet:

and it now looks like this:

(from Pfister)
Ive already done a lot in here, so its really just finishing touches that Id like to change. Hence the BLACK + DECKER BIG FINISH. :)
So, anyway, the rooms that were inspiration to me for my bathroom were these:

Im thinking of possibly changing out the countertop... can this be done in 19 days? Not sure! Itd be my first experience with changing out a countertop, but it cant be that difficult...right?!
I also want a different rug in there (I do love that rug, so Ill just move it somewhere else), and a different shower curtain. Im thinking that I will either sew a new one, or have one sewn with some cool fabric. I have always felt like the one I have in there now is just so-so. Im always on the lookout for a new one, but never find one.
I also think Id like to add some trim around the mirror, like this.
So, here we go -- wish me luck. Obviously, Ill be completing nothing this weekend in Nashville. Not good! Check back here to see what I improve upon in the next couple of weeks! I may have big goals, but you guys know Im not afraid to roll up my sleeves and get things done.
