Bills Sponsored by the Tea Party

Bills Sponsored by the Tea Party

Here is a list from archives.politicususa.com:

1.     Against Women’s Reproductive Rights: over two dozen bills.

2.   Against Special Supplemental Nutritional Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). This could have been full funded by one week of Bush’s tax cuts for millionaires.

3.   Against National Public Radio. (One could wonder if they  would like to replace it with FOX news?)

4.   Against Desegregation. Check out Minnesota

5.   Against High-Speed Rail. Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida all came out against these improvements.

6.   Against Marriage Equality and the Anti-Gay Agenda.

7.   Against Net Neutrality. They want corporations to control the internet to better their profits and content.

8.   Against Obama. No surprise, but the birther argument goes on and on as well as opposing anything Obama wants; do anything to get rid of him.

9.   Against Unions and Collective Bargaining/against middle class. This is really class warfare ignoring that when unions are strong the middle class is strong and it converse.

10.Against Immigration. Arizona and Texas led this to the point of encouraging vigilantism.

11.   Against Child Labor Laws. Sen. Mike Lee of Utah says it is unconstitutional ignoring the Labor Standards Acts of 1938.

12.Against the right to Vote. All the ID stuff and college students.

13.Against Islam/Islamophobia.

14.Against the Federal Government (Tentherism).

15.Against Gun Control. Let’s let them hit the bars packing concealed weapons.

16.Against Science, the Environment and Health.

17.Against Education/Historical Revisionism. All the creationism stuff, also defunding Head Start, cutting teacher’s pay,

There is a lot the Tea Party is against. What are they for? It appears like they would like to return to the 19th century. Read some history and see what a mess that time was. It also seems important to make no distinction between the country founded in 1776 and our current country.

Nihilism if the belief that a society’s political and social institutions are so bad they should be destroyed. They seem to have this belief as was advocated by the 19th century Russian Party.

While I appreciate the Tea Partys frustration with government and the status quo there agenda seems lets just make things worse. They seem to lack compassion for fellow human beings and would take us back to the law of the jungle or the survival of the fittest. The claim Christian traditions but do not follow Christian ethics of compassion, care and love for their fellow human beings. They have unwittingly become the pawns of big businesses and those who promote inequality in government and economics.

Bowling Party Dessert Table

Bowling Party Dessert Table

Im so excited to share the photos from my daughters bowling party a few weekends ago.

Sometimes being the owner of a party business means your own children’s birthdays can sneak up on you. And this year, a week before my middle child’s birthday we realized we had no plans — Oh no!

We decided a last minute bowling party was the way to go. Acting quickly to pull it all together involved an almost all-nighter of designing a set of bowling party printables and luckily, we sent out invitations the very next day.

DESSERT TABLE DETAILS:
  • The centerpiece was created from paper mache boxes covered in paper patterns to coordinate with the BOWLING PARTY COLLECTION. The base in bold black and white stripes was a fun find from Hobby Lobby. The red center box was covered in red wrapping paper from Walmart and the top box was covered in the printable black chevron paper from the printables collection.
  • The “11” on the top was created from wood numbers covered in turquoise glitter cardstock.
  • On either side of the centerpiece, tiered boxes held a fun bowling topper created from the printable bowling pins from the collection and a styrofoam ball covered in decoupaged black napkins to resemble a bowling ball.
  • A simple backdrop made from a 4’x4’ piece of ¼” plywood covered in alternating pieces of black and white 12”x12” scrapbook paper was a striking complement to the rest of the dessert table decor.
  • Another fun element of the table included plates of store-bought chocolate covered doughnuts placed on DIY cake stands made from thrift store candle holders and lazy susan tops. I love these cake stands and use them all the time for different parties. I can glue on different ribbons and trims and completely change the look from party to party.
  • To save time, the cupcakes and cookies were store-bought and embellished with printable cupcake toppers and gorgeous fondant toppers from the talented Brittany of Edible Details.
  • Since I was in a time-crunch the marshmallow pops were the only food I made myself. In only about an hour, I covered the tops of over-sized marshmallows with turquoise and red chocolate candy melts sprinkled in colored sugars. A fun little “bowling ball” made from a chocolate candy melt with three white dots topped off the treats. Placing the marshmallow pops in Dollar Tree glass vases covered in a red/white dot printable paper made a simple display. Surrounding them with cups of gumballs added a touch of color and another sweet kid favorite.
  • Other items on the dessert table included candy bars wrapped in the party printable design and Dollar Tree favor boxes covered in a printable black and white stripe paper to hold popcorn for the guests. A printable bowling ball design was added to the front of each snack box to tie in the theme.

Stay tuned for tomorrows post on the place settings and table centerpieces as well as a fun idea for a STRIKING Photo Booth! Yes, Ive even got more photos!

Boy Band Party Playlist

Boy Band Party Playlist

Although I’m still a few months out from my wedding, this weekend I’m traveling to celebrate with some of my girlfriends for a bachelorette party. In the grand spirit of celebration, potential inebriation, silly sashes, and age-inappropriate tiaras, a collection of 90s mood music seemed in order. What better way, I figured, to get into the celebratory mood than with a boy band pregame playlist? No way better, of course.

Truthfully, the notion for this playlist stemmed from my friends’ slightly embarrassing request that I bring my iPod (my vintage pink 2004 mini model) to the weekend’s festivities. I warned my friend that since I lost the cord to update the iPod sometime around 2005, the playlists have been virtually frozen in time. While she assured me it would be fine and to bring it anyway, I mentally calculated the cheese factor of my carefully constructed party playlists. Deciding the nostalgia appeal outweighed the inevitably embarrassment of these decade plus-old songs, I figured I’d bring out the big guns. By guns, obviously, I mean synthesizers and impressively pitch-perfect prepubescent harmony compositions.

I’ve opted to share the most incriminating of these playlists here with you, with the understanding that you may feel free to mercilessly mock my musical mindset. Go ahead, I can take it. I also promise not to tell if you choose to reconstruct this playlist on your own music device and dance to it alone in your room in preparation for a night out, though I retain that you should probably cite you found the idea here somewhere in your footnotes or elsewhere in your music bibliography. Feel free to fear for my future wedding guests and the inevitable 90s pop-packed playlist I’ll probably roll out for the occasion. For now, though, get pumped up with some of these cornball boy band jams. You’re welcome.

Quit Playing Games with my Heart

This is the closest thing to a slow jam you’ll find on this list, and it serves as a nice transitional warm-up to build momentum for all the cheesy 90s dance music that’s to come. “Quit Playing Games” beat out several veritable contenders for this coveted warm-up spot, including 98 Degrees “I Do (Cherish You)” and All 4 One’s “I Swear.”

(You Got It) The Right Stuff

It’s physically impossible to hear this song without breaking into a hearty chorus of “oh-oh-oh-ohoh! oh-oh-oh-OH!” Seriously, try to stop yourself. It’s like a knee-jerk reflex for 90s children. This song is too magically catchy not to sing along, and that dancing in the video is just too ridiculous to hate on.

When the Lights Go Out

If I’m ever looking for inspiration for creative license for spelling, I should just remind myself of the 90s boy band 5ive. I may not agree that a number is an appropriate substitute for the first letter of that same number spelled out, but I will defend their right to make ridiculous faux-hip hop pop songs with inane lyrics and pulsating beats. That’s just common sense.

I Want it that Way

Judging by the 29 milllion YouTube views on a song that premiered long before we’d ever heard of YouTube, I’d say the Backstreet Boys have a pretty well-established 90s fan base. Their ability to gaze pensively into the camera while dressed in matching monochromatic ensembles isn’t bad, either.

Summer Girls

I’ve posted this video on this site exceedingly more times than is remotely justifiable, but I can’t deny my love for it. It never fails to put me in the mood for summer, plus it kind of makes me want to beg my parents for $79 for obscene cutoff shorts and overpriced shirts that simply read “Abercrombie.”

Tearin’ Up my Heart

NSync - Tearin up my Heart by SUUZAN

These old *NSync videos are pretty compelling proof that if you’re as good looking as Justin Timberlake, you can someday recover from the corniness of being a teen boy band star and reinvent yourself as cool. To the other guys, sorry. At least you had your moment of looking soulfully into the camera for three seconds before the attention deficit music video director cut to a shot of one of your bandmates being more attractive and interesting than you.

U+Me=Us

This song fits in so well on this list, it’s almost difficult to remember that it’s a parody. The satire of MTV’s 2ge+her is so spot-on that without listening carefully to the lyrics, it’s tough to differentiate it from its allegedly serious real life boy band counterparts. Actually, the lyrics aren’t even that far off, if you go on cheesiness and generic content alone.

I Want you Back

Where exactly do I go about getting one of those super-cool zip-front crewnecks Justin and JC are sporting in the opening shot? Those are pure 90s goodness, though the shiny jackets in the next cutaway come in a close second. I imagine someday our kids will watch these videos and tease us mercilessly that we once idolized this kind of incredibly ridiculous dancing and even bought Darrin’s Dance Grooves to try to replicate them in the privacy of our own homes. Wait, who am I kidding? Our kids won’t even know what music videos are. Someday we’ll wax poetic on the virtues of TRL and they won’t understand a word of it.

Step by Step

Scratch that whole thing about the last video being the cheesiest in the bunch. Rewind a few years and the dancing gets much, much more cornball. This video also has a little cameo by Donny’s little bro, aka Mark Wahlberg, right around 3:45. You might miss it and get distracted by the miming of the violin that follows it, as that is pretty awesome as well.

Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)

This list has made it painfully obvious I was something of a BSB fan back in the day. What can I say, I appreciated their artful music videos. You know, like this one, where their tour bus breaks down and they stranded at a haunted house. It’s the very very poor man’s “Thriller,” except the song has nothing whatsoever to do with what’s going on visually in the video.(Note: the original music video was causing annoying ads on the blog, so please enjoy the lyrics in lieu of actual video.)

Birthday Donut Party

Birthday Donut Party

I cant believe my little baby boy is 2. I know one day Ill look back on these pictures and think that he looked so young. But right now it feels like he became a 2 year old overnight. Theres no perfect phrase or set of words to describe how much Jake has changed my life, but my favorite quote comes pretty close:

"No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, youre the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside."

Donut Birthday Party Table

While Ive always loved creative things (hence why I became a marketer), I use to feel a little lost when it came to executing my artistic vision because Im not a very good drawer or painter. Turns out I just needed Jake (and Pinterest) to inspire me. Now I love to create things that make him smile or squeal with delight. My ideas dont have to be perfect or fancy, they just need to be fun. When he came out of his room this morning he was so excited to see his birthday surprise. And then he immediately proceeded to tear down his birthday banner and grab a handful of donut holes!

We couldnt have asked for better weather this morning, a perfect way to celebrate and start the day.

Donut display

Turns out 4 dozen donuts and 3 dozen donut holes was just the right amount (who knew our friends could eat so much).

Sprinkle covered frame

The backdrop was clear balloons filled with paper confetti. Each balloon was tied to a party favor can. The sprinkled picture frame was actually much harder to make then I imagined. I used a spray adhesive,  but I probably should have tried one that was a bit stronger. Im still finding sprinkles all over my house.

Sprinkle covered cups

Making sprinkled cups for milk was much easier! You just roll the top in frosting and then roll again in sprinkles. (Note to self - next time dont put the milk glasses at the front of the table even though it looks pretty because clumsy toddler hands will just want to yank them down.)

guest book fingerprints

Sadly since Jake will have no recollection of this birthday since hes only 2, I wanted to make a little keepsake as a reminder. Above you will see my attempt at drawing a donut (good thing we didnt have a dinosaur party). The idea was for everyone to leave a fingerprint on the donut so that it looked covered in sprinkles. We call it our "Donut Finger Print Guest Book". The size is 11" x 14" so it can easily be framed and hung in Jakes room.

donut toss

All of the play sock donuts I made were put to good use at the donut toss.

And the giant inflatable donut I bought on Amazon has now become Jakes favorite new seat.

party favor

For party favors, all of the kids got to take home a tin can filled with all of Jakes favorites: M&Ms, matchbox cars, Play-Doh, bubbles and of course my DIY play donuts. The cans also served as part of the table decoration with a balloon tied to each.

And finally, here is the birthday boy with daddy (his twin) and me (this was one of the only pictures I got of him looking at the camera and not squirming).

Ive enjoyed every minute of planning my little boys donut birthday party. Love you to the moon and back Bubba.

Bowling Party Party Table

Bowling Party Party Table

Yesterday I shared the DESSERT TABLE photos and how-tos from my daughters recent bowling party. And today Im sharing a little more including some photos from the party table and of the kids having a great time celebrating.

This party was pulled together in just a few days and I hope that it goes to show all moms out there that no matter how late we are in planning a birthday party, its do-able. Printables make it so easy to pull a party together and starting with a printable set gives good direction for any party. Once you know the colors, a quick trip to Party City, the grocery store and a craft store and you can be on your way to a fabulous little celebration.

  • Using chip board letters from Hobby Lobby covered in glittery scrapbook paper was a great way to make the birthday girl feel special. I tied some pieces of tulle to some ribbon, glued the letters of her name on and tied the ribbon around the chair Macy would be sitting in.

  • The table settings were pulled together quickly with paper plates from Party City, cups from the Dollar Tree and fun little trophies for each guest (Party City). The cups were adorned with some ribbon and a bowling logo from the BOWLING PRINTABLES SET.
  • Utensils were wrapped in a black napkin and I used a bowling ball cut out from the printables set to add a fun extra. Punching a hole in each side of the bowling ball and stringing ribbon attaches it around the napkin.

  • Small pennants from the printables set were used as name cards for each guest. Pixie sticks and a small round ball of chocolate resembling a bowling ball was placed inside each trophy
  • Each place setting used a piece of 12"x12" scrapbook paper as a placemat
  • A table runner was made by using a strip of black and white dot wrapping paper
  • Centerpieces were made from bowling themed cut outs from the BOWLING PRINTABLES SET
  • Hersheys Kisses and miniature candy bars wrapped in bowling stickers from the printables set added a sweet little extra to the table for the kids

  • The kids loved getting awards for the bowling abilities. I made each of the ribbons quickly the night before the party using scrapbook paper and the award circles from the printables collection. Here is a tutorial that might help if youd like to make your own.
  • A "Guess How Many?" game was set out for the kids to guess how many gumballs were in the container. The winner got to take home the gumballs which the kids LOVED.

  • A "Happy Birthday" banner from the printables set was placed on the gift table. I used a fun idea for bowling ball stands to tie the banner onto.

  • Favors were made for each guest using turquoise baskets from the Dollar Tree with water bottles wrapped in bowling printable wraps, some pixie sticks, a sucker, some chocolate candies and a treat bag of black gumballs with a printable tag that said "Thanks, I had a ball!"
  • Each favor basket was embellished with three colors of tulle, red, black and turquoise and tied with red/white bakers twine and a bowling pin cut out from the printables set.

  • A photo booth for the kids was set up by placing a couple of yards of red and white dot fabric on the wall and giving them some fun props to be a little crazy with. A frame and some Dollar Tree supplies like furry hats, boas and these great big lips kept everyone laughing and having a good time.

It was a blast for the kids, and now with so many photos well have lots of great memories from the day.
