Big Donors Urge The RNC To Cut Ties With Donald Trump
Several of the Republican Party’s most generous donors called on the Republican National Committee on Thursday to disavow Donald J. Trump, saying that allegations by multiple women that Mr. Trump had groped or made inappropriate sexual advances toward them threatened to inflict lasting damage on the party’s image.

Bigg Boss 10 Bani J’s boyfriend Yuvraj Thakur is with her inside the house find out how

Bigg Boss 10: Bani J’s boyfriend Yuvraj Thakur is with her inside the house- find out how

Bani J and Yuvraj Thakur’s relationship is not a secret anymore. Both have dropped quite a few hints that confirm their love affair. But remember how it all started? It all began with a T-shirt. For those of you who don’t know, Bani is often spotted cuddling her boyfriend’s T-shirt inside the Bigg Boss house. While we all knew that this tee really means something to Bani, her boyfriend has now come out in the open and talked about this infamous T-shirt.

While Bani is slowly coming out in open about her love life, Yuvraj on the other hand has kept mum, until today. Yes, we contacted Yuvraj earlier in the morning and asked him to finally clear the air about their relationship. This time he didn’t give us his “no comments” answer as he finally spoke about the relationship, not in direct terms of course. (ALSO READ: Bigg Boss 10: These pictures prove that Bani J is missing her alleged boyfriend terribly)

It is during this EXCLUSIVE conversation, we also asked about his T-shirt that Bani has with her inside the glass walled house. And here’s what he said, “Yes, that’s a T-shirt, which is close to my heart and that’s why she has it.” Awww, how cute is that. The t-shirt is a symbol of their love, it seems.

We like how these two are slowly coming out in the open about each other every passing day. For the uninitiated, the two started off as gym buddies, but gradually found love in each other. We are just hoping that they finally admit to their relationship and Yuvraj enters the house and surprises her. Don’t you want that too?

Bills Sponsored by the Tea Party

Bills Sponsored by the Tea Party

Here is a list from archives.politicususa.com:

1.     Against Women’s Reproductive Rights: over two dozen bills.

2.   Against Special Supplemental Nutritional Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). This could have been full funded by one week of Bush’s tax cuts for millionaires.

3.   Against National Public Radio. (One could wonder if they  would like to replace it with FOX news?)

4.   Against Desegregation. Check out Minnesota

5.   Against High-Speed Rail. Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida all came out against these improvements.

6.   Against Marriage Equality and the Anti-Gay Agenda.

7.   Against Net Neutrality. They want corporations to control the internet to better their profits and content.

8.   Against Obama. No surprise, but the birther argument goes on and on as well as opposing anything Obama wants; do anything to get rid of him.

9.   Against Unions and Collective Bargaining/against middle class. This is really class warfare ignoring that when unions are strong the middle class is strong and it converse.

10.Against Immigration. Arizona and Texas led this to the point of encouraging vigilantism.

11.   Against Child Labor Laws. Sen. Mike Lee of Utah says it is unconstitutional ignoring the Labor Standards Acts of 1938.

12.Against the right to Vote. All the ID stuff and college students.

13.Against Islam/Islamophobia.

14.Against the Federal Government (Tentherism).

15.Against Gun Control. Let’s let them hit the bars packing concealed weapons.

16.Against Science, the Environment and Health.

17.Against Education/Historical Revisionism. All the creationism stuff, also defunding Head Start, cutting teacher’s pay,

There is a lot the Tea Party is against. What are they for? It appears like they would like to return to the 19th century. Read some history and see what a mess that time was. It also seems important to make no distinction between the country founded in 1776 and our current country.

Nihilism if the belief that a society’s political and social institutions are so bad they should be destroyed. They seem to have this belief as was advocated by the 19th century Russian Party.

While I appreciate the Tea Partys frustration with government and the status quo there agenda seems lets just make things worse. They seem to lack compassion for fellow human beings and would take us back to the law of the jungle or the survival of the fittest. The claim Christian traditions but do not follow Christian ethics of compassion, care and love for their fellow human beings. They have unwittingly become the pawns of big businesses and those who promote inequality in government and economics.

Blame the Victim Economic Theory

Blame the Victim Economic Theory

Paul Krugman in the New York Times nails the one percenters and their minions thinking well in their blaming the victim excuses for unemployment.

He points out that study after study has shown poor worker skills to be a false assumption as promoted by an article in Politico by Jamie Dimon a JP Morgan Chase CEO. It is the idea that if you just keep on saying something, even if it’s false, it’s true. Thus, this has become a popular idea in this country. But the data shows that employment is lacking in all educational groups compared to the pre-Great Recession. Krugman says simply if employers want better workers and greater talent, pay them more.

This type of thinking contributes to an increasingly class differentiated society. In this society, a lot of folk buy the malarkey of the ultra wealthy and really don’t realize where they are in the class structure.

We hear this stuff all the time. The evil welfare mother’s myth by Ronald Reagan is a good example. Never happened, no such person, but lot’s of folk believe it. Folk in families where both spouses have to work longer and harder to maintain the lifestyle of the parents even believe this fabrication. Another example came from a friend with this T-Shirt bit: “Ineptocracy ) in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) – A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.”

It sounds good, does great scapegoating, and promotes as illusion that the middle class or those who think they are in it, are supporting deadbeats. The problem is it is completely lacking in facts.

Recently in the news we are hearing lots about the millionaire couple, Lord Colin and Lady Andrea Chisholm, III that scammed the government getting $167,000 in welfare. But nowhere have I heard how the Chrisoms got their millions to begin with. How much different are they from the owners of Wal-Mart who pay their workers so poorly that they government has to supplement the workers incomes with food stamps, etc.?

If we followed the guidelines of taxes when we began them tax rates would be much different. Originally, it was only the rich that were supposed to pay taxes. The average family was not expected to pay any income tax. Today the median income in this country is $52,100, thus anyone making that or less should not be paying income taxes. Warren Buffet gets it but also benefits from it by paying less income tax than his secretary. He does this by investing his money so his income comes from dividends, capital gains that is lower than regular income tax. A tax loophole created by rich lobbyists for the rich folk who control congress through their wealth/contributions.

I remain amazed that so many folk blame the wrong people for this country’s economic woes. We know what works. We saw it in the New Deal Keynesian economics that worked up till Ronald Reagan. Unfortunately, today that is not in the memory banks of most Americans. Negativity sells and so the untruths about blaming the poor for our troubles persist.

Bigg Boss 10 Manu Punjabi to return back to the house after completing the last rites confirms fiancee Priya Saini

Bigg Boss 10 Manu Punjabi to return back to the house after completing the last rites confirms fiancee Priya Saini

Bigg Boss 10: Manu Punjabi to return back to the house after completing the last rites confirms fiancee Priya Saini

Last night, we saw that Manu Punjabi’s fiancee Priya Saini lashed out at Mona Lisa for trying to get too close to her beau inside the Bigg Boss 10 house. She described her man as a friendly bloke who does not have any hidden intentions. Just after that, she got the news that Manu’s mother, Sujata Punjabi had expired in Jodhpur. She was in her late 70s and was suffering from respiratory issues. Sujata was living with her eldest son, Amar and his wife, Mili. Manu is also born in Jodhpur but raised in Jaipur. This was indeed a huge loss for the Bigg Boss contestant who is said to be extremely attached to his mother. (Also Read: Bigg Boss 10: Manu Punjabi and Mona Lisa to be GRILLED by their fiance and boyfriend, courtesy Salman Khan)

Priya told JT, “She suffered a cardiac arrest on Friday night and was declared brought dead to the hospital. She was in her 70s.” It seems the lady came to know about it after she went to the hotel after shooting for ‘Salman ki sabha’. She says she came to know around midnight and informed the makers about it. Priya requested them to allow Manu to come out of the house so that they could be with the family in Jodhpur. She says, ” It’s a difficult time for us, especially for Manu, as he was extremely close to his mother.”

Manu reached Jodhpur early on Saturday to complete the last rites. Priya also said that he would be returning back to the house after a few days. Last year, we saw that Keith Sequeira had to leave the house mid-way after his brother Ian passed away suddenly. He made a comeback after a few weeks and had a pretty long stint. A few seasons earlier Karishma Kotak also left the house mid-way due to her father’s demise. (Also Read: Bigg Boss 10: Manu Punjabi makes an emergency exit and the reason is really sad)

The episode of Manu Punjabi’s sudden exit will be aired tonight. It seems Bigg Boss will not inform him of the tragedy inside the house but tell him to leave the premises immediately. Later, he would be told of the same. Manu is one of the most promising commoner contestants inside the house. His romance with Bhojpuri actress Mona Lisa is making news. With his one-liners, aggression and slightly flirty nature, he is quite a guy.

Bring on the Halloween Decorations

Bring on the Halloween Decorations

I know its still September and the first actual day of Autumn was only yesterday but Im SO ready for bonfires, apple cider, and Salted Caramel Mochas-- which is the superior Autumnal beverage. (If any of you want to buy me one, I get it with soy, no whip, no caramel drizzle.) I know its not full-on "sweater weather" yet but this time of year is perfect for a light knit-- which is why I chose this darling rust-colored top.

One of my favorite looks is shorts with tights. I dont care if its not "in," Ill wear it until the day I die. (A quick blog search reveals that Ive been doin it since at least 2014.) When you find something that works for you, why stop? Especially when the shorts are as cute as these. I got them when I was working at Urban Outfitters as an 18-year old so, yeah. Ive had these shorts for quite some time. (Dont make me do the math. My birthday was a few days ago and I already feel super old.) Ive gone through a lot of style changes but these shorts have always stayed with me. I just love the colors! So many floral patterns are bright and this one is dark and moody. Perfect for the mysterious girl vibes Im going for.

philly, blogger, E.M., Ricchini, shorts, tights, sweater, grunge, fashion, style
What would a fall ensemble be without some point loafers and a witchy hat? Im VERY excited to unpack all of my felt hats from storage. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year! (Okay, maybe aside from the week leading up to Christmas.)

xo,
e.m.

Boats Against the Current Baz Luhrmanns The Great Gatsby

Boats Against the Current Baz Luhrmanns The Great Gatsby

Ive seen Baz Luhrmanns version of The Great Gatsby five times now. Im not even ashamed to admit it. If I were to somehow become Alien out of Spring Breakers, it wouldnt be Scarface Id have on repeat, it would be The Great Gatsby. Anything remotely Gatsby I snap up - whether it be reblogging my 100th gif of Jordan Baker or changing my cover photo on Facebook or finding something pretty to adorn my bedroom walls with.

Despite all this, I dont actually like The Great Gatsby as a film all that much. Lets put all of this into context: last term I did this huge research project about modern adaptations of classic films. Now, I wont bore you with the gory details since that thing ended up being like, 40 pages long, but The Great Gatsby was my main focus. This was because I had never seen so many people around my age go absolutely nuts for this one movie. Admittedly, this was mainly because of the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio is descended from angels and were all materialistic magpies that will swoop in on anything that glitters (so you can imagine the field day we had with this). Lets just say, I wasnt the only one reblogging, cover photo-ing or adorning everything Gatsby.

However, I was the only one who had actually read The Great Gatsby, the great American novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I was the only one who originally hated Tom Buchanan, knew the tragedy of Gatsby and frowned upon Daisys decisions. And now I had a whole lot of people joining the party because it never killed nobody. Okay, so Im not a thick-rimmed glasses wearing hipster. But Baz Luhrmanns version - no matter how much I love the guy and will defend his work until the bitter end - is not a good representation of the book. It is just a good representation of how to get the youngins in to watch something that doesnt have (many) explosions or robots and the like, and even perhaps read the book.

The conclusion I came to in my really long research report was that The Great Gatsby is not a book that can be translated to the screen. F. Scott Fitzgerald was an absolute master with his words. So much so that it is almost like he is speaking in his own language. Theres one particular quote that I found by Anne Margaret Daniel of Huffington Post that said "Fitzgeralds language has already done all the cinematic work for the actors, directors, set designers and producers. The Great Gatsby is an interior book, little concerned with externals. Fitzgerald conjures what he wants to say by way of description with only a few delicate strokes of words...We use our imaginations to fill out the pictures for ourselves, where a camera cannot". Which would leave you in a pretty sticky spot if you were thinking of giving Fitz the cinematic treatment. Even moreso if youre adapting a book often lauded for its subtle writing...and your name is Baz Luhrmann, the king of excess.

Yes, I have sat there watching The Great Gatsby rolling my eyes at Luhrmanns feeble attempts at tackling the great motifs of the eye of T.J. Eckleburg and the green light. Theres only so many scenes of Leonardo DiCaprio reaching out to the distant, likely CGI green light at the end of Daisys dock that one can take. I love how Michaelis pops up in the background for no obvious reason, but hes quite the big part of the book. I have made some vociferous, angry statements about the end and how mangled it is compared to the book (what is worse that it was originally similar to the book, including the final scene with Jordan Baker - why would you cut a scene with the flawless Elizabeth Debicki in it?!). But if theres one thing that this film is very good at being, it is extremely faithful to the novel. 85% of the plot remains intact, save for the ending. 75% of the very limited dialogue from the novel remains intact. Yet, it feels like a very loose adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel. And again, thats because we have Baz Luhrmann, the king of excess, throwing glitter literally everywhere, putting a huge gold organ in Gatsbys house and, well, introducing New York to a song thats most expressive line is "coke on her black skin made a stripe like a zebra".

Dont get me wrong, reading about Luhrmanns decisions was actually quite interesting - his heart was certainly in the right place - but lets not keep this film and the novel in the same universe. What Luhrmann has realised is how much times have changed since the jazz age, and how making a film with the same sensibilities as the novel wouldnt have got him the audience, nor boosted F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel back into Top 10 glory. Perhaps a subtle film by Sofia Coppola with jazz music would have been in a closer range to the novel, but Luhrmanns film is truly something different. Where else would you get a 3D 1920s set film with people riding in cars to some hip hop tunes? You can either take a glass half full or glass half empty approach: I think The Great Gatsby is about as fresh as you can get in a blockbuster. Not perfect, but lets just say it is a damn fine rose in amongst some rusty franchise thorns.

Being an adaptation of my favourite book aside, The Great Gatsby is one of my favourite films of the year. I could do without the ridiculous slow-mo shots (particularly that one of Wolfshiem) and the overkill of CGI, but it is so darn entertaining. It is the kind of thing that Baz Luhrmann is perfect at. He may not have the essence of the novel, but he has the essence of (what I imagine are) the 1920s. Plus, the performances are pretty good. Tobey Maguire isnt a half bad third wheeler, Carey Mulligan has the sing-song voice and hollowness of Daisy, Joel Edgerton is about as one-dimensional as you can get but still a hateful Tom, Isla Fisher had the right idea with Myrtle but she wasnt given enough time, and Jason Clarke was perhaps a little too melodramatic as Wilson (that scene where he is rubbing that glass over his face is kinda weird).

Shes so peeeeeeeerfect
But the film belongs to Leonardo DiCaprio and Elizabeth Debicki. The latter is definitely my (and hopefully the rest of the worlds) next Jessica Chastain. Jordan was always my favourite character, and Elizabeth plays her perfectly. Her voice, the way she carries herself, the way she looks...shes magnificent, and the fact that she was practically an unknown? I love heeeeer. And it goes without saying that Leonardo DiCaprio is the perfect Gatsby. Sure, the script makes Gatsby out to be a little more naive and narrow-minded than the complex hero of the novel, but hes just so damn heart breaking. Not to mention that completely ridiculous introduction. It is so over the top and perfect that every time I see it I start laughing and crying hysterically at the same time.

Then again, thats just my teenaged heart acting up. Every day is Leo-Mania for me.

So yeah, I both love and revile at The Great Gatsby. But I am glad that the film has had such an influence that it is our ball theme for this year (which has been my dream for, like, ever). And I am glad that the soundtrack has provided me with plenty of hip tunes to walk briskly to school with. Its shallow, glittering entertainment, but hey, it is beautiful. One day Ill own a house like Gatsbys.

Until then, Ill be reaching out to the green light I can see across our farm by the sanitation ponds.

I really wish I was joking about that last part.
